Caveat Emptor: Via the identical posting on another site, it's apparent that the poster "A Learner" above is affiliated with what might be perceived as a "competing" site to linese.com.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the site you can send them to me at ruzzlebot@yahoo.com or post them here. I would like to see the site become much more useful as I am both working there and trying to learn Chinese myself.

Re: Linese.com

I'm an American in Bejing. I'm always looking to upgrade my Chinese skills, so I visited the site immediately upon hearing about it (on the English Language radio in BJ.)

Site is junk. Navigation is junk. Lessons are junk.

MANY better sites exist.

FWIW ... Site appears to have something to do with "Happy China". This a a TV program that I see on the China TV occasionally. Show isn't bad. However, the site appears to be a direct transcript of the show. It doesn't work.

Sorry if this sounds brutal, but that's how I see it.

Has anyone else run across this claim (or better still, evidence to support it)?

If true, this may explain the "Copyright by voice of Chinese 2006-2008" on the site, and, as Jay at Shanghaiist.com asked, "Why the Chinese government is suddenly spearheading this move."

I'd pass this off with a "BFD," except that the press releases imply it's an official government launch ("China launched...", "...the Ministry of Education said.", etc.), which forces the question, "Is the CCP now available for paid endorsements?"

If so, I'd love to see them in an iPod ad.

linese.com is not official Chinese language learning website, but a commercial project. Learns will be charged a lot of fee
Today I asked one of their teacher. She told me their service is not free. They are a company who just bribed offcials of China government to get some promotion support from government.
Shit!!

I agree that it's theorhetically good, but another possible criticism is against its content. As Roddy pointed out over at Chinese-Forums.com, there are lots of sight-seeing this and China History that topics, but nothing along the practical lines of what language learners will need first: ordering from a menu, asking directions, recognizing tea scams, etc.

Put another way, the content seems more derived from the Ministries of Propoganda and Tourism than that of Education.

That's not to say it won't improve...but it definitely needs to.

Hello!

I am planning to try this website although I am going to university later this year to study Chinese. I have found that chinesepod has been ace and great for listening skills as I just listened to it when I was going about China.

In theory, linese is a really nice idea.
